Accessibility statement

How accessible this site is, where it still falls short, and how to report a problem.

Last updated

This statement applies to www.socialectric.com, the website of Socialectric, operated by Eric Phung in Sale, Manchester, UK. It does not cover websites I have built for clients; each of those has, or should have, its own statement.

I audit other organisations' websites against WCAG 2.2 AA. It would be difficult to argue that standard for a client and decline to publish my own position, so this page states where this site actually stands, including what is not yet right.

01 The standard this site is built to

Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA. WCAG 2.2 is backwards compatible with 2.1, so a page meeting 2.2 AA also meets the 2.1 AA level cited by EN 301 549 and by most UK procurement policies.

02 How accessible this website is

I believe this site is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 AA. Partially conformant means most of the site meets the standard, and the exceptions below do not.

Known limitations at the date above:

  • Alternative text in older articles. Images published before the current editorial process may carry generic or empty alt text where a description was needed. A per-image review of the article library is underway and not yet complete.
  • Downloadable documents. PDFs and other files offered from the Resources section have not all been tested for tagging, reading order or text alternatives. If you need the content of any of them in a different format, ask and I will provide it.
  • Third-party scripts. Analytics and tag management load code I do not author. I test the pages they run on, but I cannot guarantee the behaviour of the third-party code itself.

If you find something that is not on this list, I would rather hear about it than not. See Reporting a problem below.

03 What is done to keep it accessible

  • Accessibility is decided at the design stage: colour contrast, focus order, keyboard operation and semantic structure are settled before anything is built, not corrected afterwards.
  • Every page is real HTML with real URLs, headings in order, and landmarks, so it can be navigated by structure rather than by sight.
  • Everything that can be done with a mouse can be done with a keyboard, with a visible focus indicator and a skip link to the main content.
  • Motion honours the operating system's reduced-motion setting throughout. Nothing auto-plays, auto-advances or moves without being asked to.
  • Images carry intrinsic dimensions so the page does not shift as it loads, and text reflows without horizontal scrolling down to 320px and at 400% zoom.
  • Testing is manual, by keyboard and with a screen reader, alongside an automated baseline that is triaged by hand rather than pasted in.

04 Reporting a problem

If you cannot access something on this site, or you use assistive technology and hit a barrier, email me at hello@socialectric.com. Tell me the page and what happened, in whatever detail is convenient. I aim to reply within five working days, and I will tell you what I am going to do about it and when.

If you need something on this site in another format, ask for it in the same way.

05 If you are not satisfied with the response

Socialectric is a private business, so the Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations 2018 do not apply to this site. Service providers do have duties to make reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act 2010. If you are unhappy with how I have handled your report, you can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS), which advises on Equality Act complaints.

06 Technical information

This site is built as static HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and is designed to be compatible with current versions of mainstream browsers and screen readers. JavaScript is used for motion and for the menu, table of contents and accordions. Content remains readable and links remain usable without it.

07 How this statement was prepared

This statement was prepared on 30 July 2026. It is based on my own assessment of the site against WCAG 2.2 AA, using manual keyboard and screen reader testing with an automated baseline. It has not been independently audited by a third party, and I would rather say so than imply an assurance that does not exist.

The statement is reviewed when the site changes materially, and at least once a year.

If accessibility is the reason you are here: how the review works.
