This page explains what this website stores on your device. Cookies are small text files a site can save in your browser; some sites also use related browser storage, and both are covered here. It also covers the one thing recorded on my side rather than yours: a pseudonymous log of the cookie choice you made.
This site sets no advertising cookies and shares nothing with advertisers. Everything listed below is stored under this site's own address. Two items are strictly necessary and are always stored; the analytics items are set only if you accept them, and nothing analytics-related is loaded before you do. The analytics services, Google Analytics and Apollo, load from their own servers once you accept, and the booking calendar loads from Cal.com only when you ask for it (see Booking a call, below). For how I handle personal data more broadly, see the Privacy Policy.
What this site stores
| Name | Type | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
se_seen | Cookie | Records that you have already seen the short opening animation, so it does not play again on every page you visit. | 12 hours |
cc_cookie | Cookie | Records the cookie choice you made on the banner, so you are not asked again on every page. | 6 months |
| Consent log | Server-side record, not stored on your device | When you make or change a cookie choice, that choice is also recorded on my own server: the random identifier from cc_cookie, the categories you allowed, and the date. No name, email address or IP address is stored. It exists so I can demonstrate that consent was properly obtained. | 13 months |
_ga | Cookie, analytics, only with your consent | Google Analytics. Distinguishes one browser from another so a returning reader is not counted as a new one. | 2 years |
_ga_5SKPSPZ8MN | Cookie, analytics, only with your consent | Google Analytics. Holds the state of your current visit for this site's property. | 2 years |
apolloAnonId | Local storage, analytics, only with your consent | Apollo. A random identifier that links the pages you view on this site into one visit history. | Until cleared |
6a555531b093a00014b438fb_eventQueue | Local storage, analytics, only with your consent | Apollo. Page views waiting to be sent, removed once they have been. | Until sent |
6a555531b093a00014b438fb_canTrack | Local storage, analytics, only with your consent | Apollo. Records whether Apollo will accept visit data from this site, so it is not asked on every page. | 1 day |
liveIntentData | Local storage, analytics, only with your consent | Apollo. Holds the result of matching your visit through Apollo's identity partner, LiveIntent. Set only for visitors in the US. | 1 day |
Analytics
Three things measure this site. Cloudflare Web Analytics runs at the server and sets no cookies at all, so it cannot identify you, so it needs no consent and there is nothing to opt out of. Google Analytics 4 and Apollo are the two that need your permission, and both are off until you give it.
Apollo is a sales-intelligence service. It records the pages you view and works out which organisation the visit comes from, so I can see which charities and nonprofits are reading. Outside the United States that is as far as it goes: Apollo matches a visit to an organisation, never to a person. Only for visitors it locates in the US does it also try to identify the individual, and for that it loads a script from its identity partner, LiveIntent. Apollo's server decides this per visit; for a visitor in the UK or EU, LiveIntent's script is never loaded.
"Off" here means genuinely off, not merely cookie-less: if you decline, or if you simply ignore the banner, neither Google's nor Apollo's script is downloaded and your browser makes no request to either. Google's advertising, ad-personalisation and ad-user-data signals are switched off permanently, for everybody, whatever you choose. This site does no advertising.
Booking a call
Every "Book a call" link on this site goes to Cal.com, which runs my booking calendar. When you click one, the calendar opens over the page, loaded from Cal.com at that moment. Nothing from Cal.com is loaded before you click, and nothing at all if you never do.
Because you asked for the calendar, whatever Cal.com stores to run it is part of the service you requested rather than something this site sets for its own purposes. Cal.com describes what that is in its privacy policy.
Changing your mind
Use the link in the footer of any page. Withdrawing is as easy as consenting: turning analytics off deletes the Google Analytics cookies and Apollo's stored items immediately and stops any further measurement.
Managing what is stored
You can also clear or block cookies and site storage in your browser settings at any time. If you remove them, the opening animation will play again on your next visit and the cookie banner will ask you again. Nothing else changes.
