For small charities and nonprofits

A website your trustees can stand behind, at a fixed price.

From £3,500 for a site of up to five pages, live within four weeks of content sign-off, then £120 a month to keep it hosted, updated and working. The pages a funder checks are there from the start.

For any nonprofit with annual income under £1 million, or fewer than 20 staff, anywhere in the world. The price is the same wherever you are.

What it costs

  • Essentials

    £3,500

Itemised for grant applications: design £500, build £3,000. Not sold separately.

Built on my accessible charity design system and styled with your logo, colours and fonts. Up to five pages, a news or projects section, and the governance pages funders and donors look for. WCAG 2.2 AA. Live within four weeks of content sign-off.

  • Bespoke

    £5,000

Itemised for grant applications: design £2,000, build £3,000. Not sold separately.

Everything in Essentials, with an original visual design made for your charity: a moodboard, two homepage concepts and two rounds of revisions. For a new identity, or a site that needs to stand out to funders. Live within six weeks of content sign-off.

Extra pages £360 each. No VAT: the price you see is the price you pay. Every quote itemises design and build, so you can put it in a grant application.

Pay in full on booking, or in three stages: half to book, 40% before the build starts, and the last 10% at launch, on the same invoice as your first Care Plan payment.

Funding your website

The Fat Beehive Foundation gives grants of up to £2,500 to charities with income under £1 million, including for building a new website, and asks for a supporting quote. Check its current deadlines before you apply.

The website

  • Up to five pages and one content collection, such as news or projects, in either design option.
  • On top of those, the governance pages a funder looks for: trustees or board, policies, annual report and accounts, complaints, privacy. They do not count towards the five.
  • Built to WCAG 2.2 AA, so the people you serve can use it.
  • Copy drafted from the material you already have. You check it and approve it.
  • Essentials has two rounds of revisions on the built site. Bespoke adds two rounds on the design.
  • Your domain, your code, your content. The domain stays in your name and the code is yours once the site is paid for.

The Care Plan

£120 a month on a 12-month plan, £1,440 paid at launch, or £144 a month on a rolling plan with 30 days’ notice on either side.

  • Hosting on Cloudflare, included.
  • Uptime monitoring, security and software updates, and backups.
  • A monthly check that your forms and donation links still work, with a short note of anything found.
  • 30 minutes a month of changes and support: editing text, swapping images, adding documents, answering questions.
  • Anything built as agreed that stops working is fixed at no extra cost while the plan is active.
  • Your price is locked for as long as the plan runs without a break.

Unused time does not roll over, and time beyond 30 minutes a month is £120 an hour, quoted and approved before it starts. New pages, new features, redesigns, photography, translation and campaigns are not part of the plan, and are quoted first if you want them.

The first year, website and 12-month Care Plan together, is £4,940 for Essentials and £6,440 for Bespoke. Nothing else is charged unless you ask for it and agree the price first. Your domain, email and any donation platform are paid by you, in your organisation’s name.

How it works

  1. A short call

Fifteen minutes to check the package fits. If it does not, I will say so and tell you what would.

  2. Your content

You send what you have: your current site, your annual report, your policies. I draft the copy from it.

  3. Design and build

With Bespoke you first see a moodboard and two homepage concepts, with two rounds of revisions on the design. With either option you then see the built site, with two rounds of revisions on it.

  4. Live

The site goes live within four weeks (Essentials) or six weeks (Bespoke) of you signing off the content. The Care Plan starts that day.

If your organisation is larger

Above £1 million, or with a site that has to do more than publish pages, a fixed package would be a guess. Larger organisations start with a Blueprint Audit, a fixed-price diagnostic your board can read. The build is then quoted from what it finds, and the site is looked after on a Governance or Partnership arrangement.

Questions

No. The same price applies to any nonprofit that is eligible, wherever it is registered. Prices are in pounds sterling and there is no VAT to add, because I am not VAT registered. You can pay by card in US dollars at your bank’s rate; any bank or transfer charges are yours.

Yes. You can pay in full on booking, or in three stages: half to book, before work starts; 40% once the design is signed off, before the build starts; and the last 10% at launch, on the same invoice as your first Care Plan payment.

Because the scope is fixed. A larger organisation starts with a Blueprint Audit because nobody knows yet what the site needs to do. Here the pages, the build and the timetable are the same every time, so there is nothing for an audit to decide.

The build is the same. Essentials uses a tested, accessible design system styled to your brand. Bespoke adds an original design made for you. Most small charities do not need bespoke design to look credible: clear governance pages and an easy-to-use site matter more.

Yes. It is what hosts the site, keeps it updated and fixes it when something breaks. You choose between 12 months paid in advance, which is cheaper, and a rolling monthly plan you can end with 30 days’ notice.

Not for you, as long as your plan runs without a break. The price you start on is the price you keep, through every renewal. If the plan ends, or stops because it is not paid, and you come back later, you pay the Care Plan price published at that time.

Nothing renews automatically. Before the term ends I ask you to choose another 12 months, the rolling monthly plan, or to end the plan and take the site with you. If no one replies, the plan ends: the site stays online at no charge for 30 days while I hand everything over, and is then taken offline.

Each extra page is £360, built in the same design, before launch or after it. If you need a lot more than that, or features beyond pages, the site has outgrown this package and the Blueprint Audit route is the better fit.

Yes. It is yours. If you leave, I transfer the code repository on GitHub and the hosting on Cloudflare into accounts in your organisation’s name before the plan ends, with written instructions for whoever looks after it next. Changing the site after that needs someone comfortable working with code.

Yes, and you get the benefit of it: it’s how the price stays fixed and how the site goes live in weeks. I review every change, nothing is published without your approval, and no image of a person is generated with AI. Day-to-day changes after launch are covered by your Care Plan. If your organisation’s rules don’t allow AI tools, this package isn’t the right fit, so tell me before booking.

You can move up to a Governance or Partnership arrangement at any time. Any unused part of a paid 12-month Care Plan is credited in full against it.

Check it fits

Fifteen minutes on a call is enough to tell whether this package is right for you. The full terms are in my terms, section 1.4.
